The
mission of Darden’s Alumni Relations is to provide an online community for
Darden alumni and extend the available services to them. Our hope is that
this online service will provide a constant point of contact for alumni and
facilitate personal communication among graduates of Darden. We have taken
every step possible to properly balance the benefits of providing
information with our desire to protect individual privacy.

Policy Agreement
Alumni Directory
Services is an online alumni service provided by Alumni Relations at
Darden. Alumni Directory Services is specifically designed to facilitate
communication among alumni for personal or Darden-related purposes.
Alumni Relations has
taken all reasonable precautions to secure the personal information
available through Alumni Directory Services. Alumni Directory Services is
password-protected to allow access by Darden alumni only. Although these precautions
should effectively protect any personal information available through
Alumni Directory Services from abuse or outside interference, a certain
degree of privacy risk is faced any time information is shared over the
Internet. Through viewing options provided to alumni, Alumni Directory
Services allows alumni to control personal information available to other
alumni.

Guidelines
for Proper Use
|

To safeguard the
operation of Alumni Directory Services, Alumni Relations has adopted the
guidelines and policies that are used by the University to govern conduct,
particularly conduct that occurs in an online environment. As members of
the extended University community, alumni are expected to adhere to
policies established through the Honor
System, the Judiciary
Committee's Standards of Conduct, the University's
Information and Technology and Communication Policies and the
guidelines set forth in the University's Ethics
in Computer Usage policy.
Also, information
available through Alumni Directory Services may be used for specific
personal and Darden related purposes only. Use of Alumni Directory Services
for any commercial, public or political mailing is strictly prohibited. Prohibited uses of the information within
Alumni Directory Services include but are not limited to
- advertising and
solicitations for commercial services
- cold-calling of any kind
or mass-mailings (sometimes known as "spamming")
- activities that are
illegal or fraudulent
- uses that inaccurately
imply endorsement, approval, or sponsorship by Darden, Alumni
Relations, or their officers
- Uses that can be confused
with official communications of Darden, Alumni Relations, or their
officers
- Mailings of any kind using
a false identification
- Activities that violate
other alumni users' privacy, such as granting access to the system or
distributing information obtained from the services to non-alumni
- Posting of obscene
materials or use of obscene or vulgar language, as defined by the
University (Darden) (Definition
of obscene), hate speech or harassment, or use of abusive or
threatening language of any kind, will constitute a violation of
these policies governing use of Alumni Directory Services.
- creation of profane, fraudulent,
or obscene aliases. All aliases adopted by Alumni Directory Services
Online users are subject to approval by the Darden and/or Alumni
Relations.
Neither Darden nor
Alumni Relations is responsible for screening communications/bulletin board
postings. Darden, however, reserves the right to reorganize or delete any
postings or message boards and may at its discretion reassign a topic's
ownership. Darden expects community members to exhibit the same level of
respect for others in this forum as in any other Darden-related venue (such
as at a reunion event). For this reason, it is essential that the alumni
users of Alumni Directory Services report any abuses or misuse of Alumni
Directory Services to the Alumni Relations office. If Alumni Relations
determines that a user's participation in Alumni Directory Services may
create a liability for Alumni Relations or Darden or that the user has
violated the policies set forth herein, Alumni Relations reserves the
right, in its sole discretion, to take actions against the user. Alumni
Relations reserves the right to expel a user and to deny a user further
access to Alumni Directory Services Online if such user violates these
policies or any applicable laws or regulations. Darden may deny access to
Alumni Directory Services Online to any individual at any time.
The reliability of the
information available through the Alumni Directory Services web site is
largely dependent upon the actions of alumni. Alumni Relations can make no
representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or
timeliness of this information.
Alumni Relations does
not warrant that the Alumni Directory Services web site will operate
error-free or that the site and its server are free of computer viruses or
other harmful material. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alumni
Relations disclaims all warranties, including the warranties of
merchantability, non-infringement, and fitness for a particular purpose. In
no event shall Alumni Relations or Darden be liable for any damages
whatsoever, including, without limitation, incidental, consequential, or
punitive damages, resulting from the use of or inability to use information
or materials available on the Alumni Directory Services Online web site.
By using the Alumni
Directory Services web site, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold
harmless Alumni Relations, the University, Darden, and their respective
agents from and against any and all losses, claims, damages, costs, and
expenses that may arise from your use of the Alumni Directory Services web
site or your breach of these policies. Alumni Relations will provide notice
to you of any such action or claim, and reserves the right to participate,
at your expense, in the investigation, settlement, and defense of any such
action or claim.
Alumni mail and directory services carries no guarantee of service.
Darden reserves the right to drop or prevent delivery of any Email violating
the above acceptable use policy, including all unsolicited bulk email or email
containing a virus. Darden staff additionally reserves the right to
periodically review email flagged as a violation of the terms of
service for the sole purpose of monitoring unsolicited bulk email
and virus filtering performance.
Darden and Alumni Relations reserve the right to discontinue any or all online services at
any time or to revise the terms and policies of this acceptable use
agreement. If the policies are revised, the updated policies will be posted
on the Alumni Directory Services web site. You should review the policies
periodically, particularly after any updates, to ensure that you are
familiar with them.
Participation in Alumni
Directory Services is a privilege. By using the system, you agree to abide
by the Alumni Directory Services policies outlined herein. If you cannot
accept these policies, please do not use Alumni Directory Services.
